Nestled in the oldest demarcated wine region in the world, its no wonder the Six Senses decided to open their first property outside Southeast Asia in Portugal.
Perched on a hilltop, the lush mountainous surroundings set against the sparkling Douro river make this one of the most exclusive properties in the country. With vineyard views as far as the eye can see, dotted with terra cotta tiled roofs, lush landscaping and the peaceful sound of nature, it took no time at all to tap into our “sixth sense”.
A converted manor that retains its authentic character, now houses 60 luxury rooms and suites spread across two wings of the property. With so many unique layouts, decor and views, no two stays are alike.
The Six Senses is world renowned for its commitment to wellness and sustainability. Rooting itself in nature, the agricultural elements are the focal point of this place.
The Wine Library and Terrace, our favorite space, is at the heart of the estate. The neutral, wooden welcoming interior brings the outside serenity indoors. Grab a glass of wine and find a spot along the magnificent and expansive terrace that wraps around the manor, with eclectic settings - a romantic fireplace, lounge couches and picnic tables all with dazzling views of the valley.
There is something for everyone on a property so expansive maintaining the tranquil nature and sensibility even when fully occupied.
We loved visiting this secluded, exclusive property and cannot wait to go back. The Six Senses is an incredible hotel group, and we are thrilled that they will be opening new properties in the next two years.
